Mark's
Chapter 16 |
|
The Body DisappearsWhen the Sabbath observance was past, Mary Magdalene, and James’ mother, Mary, and Salome bought the spices they would use to properly prepare Jesus’ body. Then, very early on the first day of the week, as soon as the sun was up, they went to the tomb. They were asking each other, “Who’s going to roll the stone away from the door of the tomb for us?” But when they looked up, they could see that the stone had already been rolled back, because it was very big. And when they entered the tomb, they saw a young man sitting over on the right. He was dressed in a fine white robe. The women were suddenly overwhelmed with confusion and fear. But he told them, “Don’t be afraid. You’re looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen. He’s not here! “Look at the place where they put Him. Now go, tell His disciples, and Peter, that He’s going ahead of you into Galilee. You’ll see Him there, just as He told you.” They hurried out, running away from the tomb. They were trembling with fear and excitement. And they told no one anything, because they were afraid. Jesus is AliveNow when He rose from the dead early on the first day of the week, Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons. She went and told His followers, while they were grieving and weeping. But they wouldn’t believe it when they heard that she had seen Him alive. After that, He appeared in a different form to two disciples while they were walking into the country. And they went and reported it to the others. But no one believed them, either. Later, while they were gathered around the table, He appeared to the eleven apostles. And He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they refused to believe those who had seen Him after He was resurrected. Then He said to them, “Go into all the world, and proclaim the Good News to every human being. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. But the unbelieving will be condemned. “And these signs will follow those who believe: in My Name they will cast out demons, they will speak new languages, and they will grab hold of serpents with their bare hands. If they drink any deadly thing, it won’t hurt them at all. They will put their hands on the sick, and the sick will be healed.” Then, after He said these things, the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven, where He sat down at the right hand of God. But the disciples went out and preached everywhere. And the Lord worked with them, confirming the Word through the signs that followed it. Amen.
