Life Is

Patricia Sprague

Life is… a newborn babe, precious, a tiny miracle.

Life is… winter, the “white-white of snow, the sparkle of frost, and the wonder of seeing your own breath.

Life is… a husband and a wife, married half of a century, walking hand in hand, still very much in love.

Life is… spring, the birds singing, the flowers appearing on the earth and the smell of fresh cut grass.

Life is… the warm sun embracing your shoulders to take away the cold of winter.

Life is… the black quietness of night, when God watches over the sleeping ones.

Life is… summer, lazy blue sky, the welcome coolness, relief of water, children ever playing.

Life is… the strength of the ant, the flight of the bird, the roar of the lion, the height of the giraffe, the web of the spider.

Life is… autumn, crunchy, rustling leaves, chilly winds whispering of a change to come.

Life is… tearful eyes, smiling lips, strong hands and tired feet.

Life is… good, sweet, mysterious, amazing and yet…

God’s loving kindness is better than life.

What a statement! What a thought!

My soul, be still and ponder these words…

“Because thy loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.” (Psalm 63:3)
